MOSSER GLASS LINDSEY
DOULTON PITCHER ½ SCALE CAPRICE CRANBERRY ICE RARE COLOR
This
piece was made by Mosser Glass in Cambridge, Ohio back in 1994 and is made from
the mold for their Lindsey line of children’s glassware.
These Lindsey pieces are exact ½ scale size
pieces based on the original Cambridge Glass Caprice Pattern pieces.
Originally the Lindsey sets were made in crystal
(or clear colored glass), moonlight blue and cobalt blue.
They were intended to be toy or children’s
sets and several different sets were produced.
These do not appear in the current Mosser Glass catalog so it appears
they no longer make these Lindsey pieces at all.
This
Cranberry Ice color was made as a trial run to determine if they would add this
color to the Lindsey line.
Both the
pitcher and the handle are the same color.
Mosser Glass decided not to produce the Cranberry Ice color and I asked
if I could buy all of the stock, which was sixty-one (61) pieces.
So, that is all of these that will ever be
made in this color and once these are gone there will be no more.
I
was friends with Tom Mosser, the founder, at the time and was an avid collector
of the Cambridge Caprice pattern.
I
worked closely with Tom and actually designed all of the packaging for these
Lindsey sets.
At Tom’s request, I can
recall bringing one of my original Cambridge Caprice Doulton pitchers over to
the Mosser factory early one morning to help the workers get the shape of the
hand applied handle as close as possible to the original.
Due
to the small number of these made this should have some value to it
someday.
At any rate a beautiful little
piece of glass with an interesting story behind it.
This would also make a neat addition to any
collection of Cambridge Caprice.
This
item is an exact ½ scale size piece based on the original Cambridge Glass Caprice
Pattern # 178 80 oz. Doulton Jug.
The 1/2 scale refers to the width and height of this pitcher, not the volume of liquid it holds.  This one holds about 8 ounces of liquid when filled up to the smallest diameter area of the neck, which in this respect makes it closer to 1/10 the size of the original.
The
original piece is pictured on page 131 of the book
Cambridge Caprice
edited by Mark Nye for the National
Cambridge Collectors Inc. and according to this book was made in the 1936 -1945
period.

Age and Condition
The piece dates to circa 1994.
It is in excellent mint original condition.
I marked this as a used item but in all
honesty it has never been out of the original packing box until now.
Please look closely at the photos as they are
an important part of my description of this item.
Each of these is hand made with a hand
applied handle, so each one will be slightly different and may not match the
photos, weight or dimensions exactly.
There are no chips, flea bites, repairs, cracks or hairlines
to the glass.
Basically, the glass is in
perfect condition.
There are no heat
checks where the handle was applied.
Please keep in mind
these photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see
will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is.
A
few words about hand-made glass:
Since
each piece is individually hand-made there may be slight differences between
pieces in terms of height, weight, color and symmetry.
There may also be some minor factory
blemishes created in the process of making the glass such as tool marks, straw
marks, acid runs as well as bubbles, tiny stones and tiny black ash specs internal
to the glass.
None of these will be
mentioned unless they are obvious to me and none of these are in any way
considered damage.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from
my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or
slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
Approximate Dimensions
About 3” (7.6 cm) in diameter and about 4.625” (11.7 cm) off
the table at the highest point of the handle.
Approximate Weight
About 9.25 ounces (261 grams).
